"Well here we are again" I cried as the long awaited family reunion that seemed to take forever to come around had finally arrived. But unfortunately first impressions were not good, at last we arrived in Benidorm all excited, but the coach kept on going and suddenly started to climb. "Where's he going?" someone shouted as we passed base camp at 5,000 feet. Suddenly from the overhead lockers our oxygen masks fell down as we continued to climb. finally we arrived at the hotel, which shall remain nameless (although it's called the Palm Beach but don't tell anyone.) After we collected our cases from the coach we faced a long drag up a slope to the front of the hotel, then another slope or a dozen or more steps to negotiate before arriving breathless at reception. After checking in there were more steps up to the lifts, we were worn out by the time we got to our rooms. As I said these were first impressions, as it turned out it was a nice hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the meals couldn't be faulted. Also the weather was great, sunshine every day, and the pool was put to good use by a number of our gang, of course Lisa and Lilo Lil had to spoil things by jumping in and causing a tidal wave that all but emptied the pool. The hotel kindly put on a fleet of Burros (Donkeys) for anyone who wanted to take a trek down the mountain to the beach, But you had to buy a bag of carrots to get back up again. Once again the entertainment was great and the fancy dress was hilarious and of course it was lovely to meet family members again who we only ever meet outside England. On a sadder note two of our friends Mary and Alan suffered heart trouble and were taken to hospital, we wish them a speedy recovery. Once again you must think it doesn't sound that great but it was ! Oh I'm not saying that it was the best "Fun in the sun" ever, because it was probably the worst ever. But if this is the worst it's gonna get then roll on next year !
